Start With the Basics
Begin preparation by simplifying food, rest, honesty, and space.
“To count to one hundred, you have to start with one.”
Why preparation matters
Ceremony can bring up physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual material. Preparation gives you a steadier foundation before entering that space. This does not mean you can control what happens. It means you can reduce unnecessary distractions and arrive with more honesty.
Start with what is simple
Begin with the basics: eat more simply, sleep more consistently, reduce alcohol and substances, create quiet time, tell the truth about your health and medications, and make space before and after ceremony.
Avoid overcomplicating the process
Many people start preparation by trying to research everything, optimize everything, and control every detail. That can create more anxiety. A better approach is to simplify. Choose a few clear practices and stay consistent.
When to ask for guidance
Ask for guidance if you feel unsure about prescription medication, supplements, heart or blood pressure concerns, mental health history, pregnancy, recent substance use, emotional instability, or whether now is the right time to participate.
