Ayahuasca Safety Quiz
Use this anonymous quiz to review common medical, medication, mental health, substance-use, and preparation factors that may require extra caution before an ayahuasca/yagé retreat.
Local privacy
This quiz does not ask for your name, email, phone number, or medication details. Your answers are calculated in your browser and are not submitted to us. To prevent losing progress on refresh, answers may be temporarily stored in this browser tab and are cleared when the tab is closed or when you retake the quiz.
Important: This anonymous quiz is for education only. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, approval, or clearance for ceremony. Do not stop, reduce, or change prescribed medication in order to attend an ayahuasca/yagé retreat unless guided by a qualified medical professional.
Emergency support: This quiz is not for emergencies. If you may harm yourself or someone else, contact local emergency services or a crisis line immediately.
What this quiz checks
This quiz looks at broad factors often reviewed before ayahuasca/yagé ceremonies: age, pregnancy or breastfeeding, prescription medication, psychiatric medication, bipolar or psychosis history, recent crisis, seizures, cardiovascular health, chronic conditions, substance use, preparation capacity, previous psychedelic reactions, integration support, and motivation.
Medication considerations
Medication interactions are one of the most important reasons to slow down before ceremony. This is especially true for antidepressants, anti-anxiety medication, mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, stimulants, sleep medication, and complex medication combinations. This page does not tell you whether to stop medication. Medication decisions belong with a qualified medical professional.
Mental health considerations
Ayahuasca/yagé can be psychologically intense. People with recent crisis, unstable symptoms, bipolar disorder, mania, psychosis history, or psychosis-like symptoms should not treat a retreat as a quick solution. Extra caution, professional support, and honest screening matter.
Heart, blood pressure, and seizure considerations
Cardiovascular and neurological history should be reviewed carefully before ceremony. This includes uncontrolled blood pressure, arrhythmia, chest pain, heart disease, prior heart attack or stroke, seizures, epilepsy, fainting, or serious neurological issues.
Substance use and preparation
Preparation matters. Regular substance use, dependency, withdrawal risk, or inability to follow preparation guidelines may increase risk. A responsible retreat process should encourage honesty rather than shame.
What to do with your result
Use your result as a starting point. A low-risk result does not guarantee safety. A caution result does not always mean you cannot participate. The right next step is to slow down, be honest, avoid changing medication on your own, and speak with appropriate support before applying.
